The Downtown Columbia Arts and Culture Commission's mission is to promote artistic and cultural activities in Columbia, Maryland and ensure that the amphitheather at the heart of this community, Merriweather Post Pavilion, continues to thrive as a world-renowned home to performing arts. In November of 2016, the Commission became owners of the storied amphitheater. 

Founded in 2013, the Commission is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and its leadership consists of a seven-member board of directors—Debbie Ellinghaus (Chair), Joanne Davis (Vice Chair/Secretary) Jeffrey Lavis (Treasurer), Maurice Bellan, Louis Ulman, Milton Matthews (ex-officio, Columbia Association) and John DeWolf (ex-officio The Howard Hughes Corporation). Ian Kennedy serves as the Commission's Executive Director.

The Commission received initial start-up funding from Howard County Government, and it is currently engaged in redeveloping Merriweather Post Pavilion. In addition, the organization is developing a strategic plan to accomplish its broader mission.
